A coworker
and I were discussing the price of super bowl tickets. A non-extensive Google
search returned a cost per ticket of $2,245.
I became curious as to the true cost for a Patriots fan to attend the
super bowl this year. This should be
fun:
Let’s assume
that our single Patriots fan lives in Boston plans to fly out on Friday night
to Indianapolis and return on Monday.
Upon arrival our fan will rent an affordable car and stay in a modest
hotel for three nights eating out for every meal. During the game our fan will consume three
beers and be required to pay for parking at the stadium. Some quick searching on Expedia and Google show
us the following data:
So for a mere $3,769, our fan can
enjoy a weekend in Indianapolis and the worst seats in the stadium. There is
however a hidden cost we are not taking in to account: tax. In order to spend $3,769, our fan has to earn
a whopping $5,025 (assuming 25% tax bracket).
Google reveals that the average football game is 3:06 long, which comes
to a staggering cost of $27 per minute…but hey, its football...right?
* For sake of
argument I did not calculate the cost of taking a vacation day, which depending
on your career and payment method could be costly.
